Interior Design for Kids & children’s rooms (Southborough & hopkinton)

Befor AeditAfter A Nurseryedit

Simple Window treatments and a new wallpaper or paint job is simple enough to transform a nursery from dull to elegant, as seen in the examples to the left. And guidance from an interior designer is well valued before your child begins to develop their own personality and likes.

As your child grows older, they will grow out of their room’s interior as fast as fads come and go. Children are easily influenced by what is for their age group or what their peers enjoy as they begin to feel the need to express themselves or as they discover new interests, their favorite color spontaneously changes, or they find something that they wish to associate with them and help their expand their sense of self.

Thus the room that your child comes home to is an important gateway to their sense of self and their happiness. They will decorate their walls with posters of their favorite band, their favorite show, their favorite animal. Children want people to know what their interests are without even realizing it in this sense, and you can use that as a wonderful way to bond with them by allowing them to help when you redesign their room as they get older.

Speak with your child and create a list of ideas that they suggest, then work from there. If they cannot decide, give suggestions and use what you already know that they enjoy. Their room should not be like your own, it must be flexible and play-adequate; meaning that it needs to be able to function both as a sleeping area and a playroom unless you have a separate room for them to play in.

Overall, this is a good experience to not only enjoy spending time with your child, but involving them in the process means that they are less likely to want a change as quickly, and will create lasting memories and inspire their own creativity. We at Decor Custom Interiors are here to assist with any of our ready-made and custom window treatments as well as with wallpapering. We carry a wide variety of reputable brands Our products come from a wide variety of trusted brands such as Hunter Douglas Blinds and Shades, as well as fabric from Robert AllenKravet, and Duralee, and wallpaper from Thibaut, Schumacher, Waverly, Brewster and York.

Northborough’s Architectural History of Yesteryear to Today; Updating Your Interior with Blinds, Shutters, Cornices and Silhouette Shades

The Town of Northborough was established as a town in the year 1775, even though it was a district as early as  1766. Since then, Northborough has kept a vast wealth of historical buildings that express the decor of times past, and their interiors have upgraded to meet today’s  modern interior design.

As seen in these two images,  a former power station is now a dining company called Pepper’s Fine Food Catering, after both being a business  front for an ice company and a warehouse and also being a foreign car garage. A refresh of the interior of your home can prove to bring life to the building rather than replacing it. Just the addiction of awnings has transformed the outside,  just as drapes and cornices can improve the interior.

This old wood mill was created in Northborough in 1888, and went through two other different purposes as a furniture producer for churches and as a retail store before its current makeover as a condominium called The Residence at the Falls.

This 1884 Northborough manor has since become the White Cliffs, a restaurant that hosts functions year round. Its interior has been replaced to become a lovely place to dine and to host business meetings and get togethers.

Even with the spire removed, this church’s structure is still recognizable even though it is now the Northborough Historical Society’s building to house their artifacts.

This 1785 house is now the location of the Purple Rose, which is a gift shop and home furnishing store.  This is another Northborough home that has been transformed for another purpose and will be an icon of the town even now.

Being from the late 1800s, these buildings would fall into the neoclassicism style of architecture which inspired a return of classical shapes borrowed from Greece and Rome. They were all built just before the introduction of Art Nouveau, which is seen in buildings with asymmetrical shapes, arches, and decorative surfaces.

The postmodernism style of architecture rose in 1972 and reinvents historical details and familliar motifs. Many of the movements of now date back to classical and ancient times, with a universal idea that rather than completely changing a structure, the classics might be improved upon. Modernism emphasizes function. Its goal is to provide for specific needs rather than imitate nature.

Decorating nowadays relies more on function and what you need. We at Decor Custom Interiors offer a series of functional and comforting custom window treatments and custom drapes to work alongside this new way of thinking. We provide products from Hunter Douglas Blinds and Shades as well as fabrics from Kravet, Robert Allen, Duralee, and wall coverings from Candice Olson and Thibaut. We can help transform your windows with roman shades, panels, shades and shutters to create a lovely yet functional piece of work in your home that you will enjoy every single day.

Hello, Hopkinton!

As Hopkinton reaches its 300th year, the town itself is renovating its town hall, and we at Decor Custom Interiors consider this time of the year to be a good opportunity to pursue your own interior design renovations. Redecorating your home is just as important as renovating, as a change in appearance can bring as much new life to a room as changing the room itself. Fixing up the outside of your home to those that pass it by on the streets is important, but even more so is the inside which you and your guests see every day.
