2014 Trends –
Individualized interiors/personalization – meaning that most consumers want their home to not only look great but to reflect memories, family, and tradition. In terms of color: pantone’s radiant orchid was selected as a color of the year. Shades of gray make for great complementary color combinations of this soft color family. Turquoise is seen more in design publications and showroom – the culmination of blues and greens are popular.
Summer:
The line between inside and outside spaces blurs more and more as fabrics become water resistant and weather-proof providing many more color and pattern options.  Shades for sunlights can be great for energy efficiency, keeping spaces naturally cooler, preventing fading from fabrics and reducing glares.
Our advice is to mix accents with trends that you like to update a look. This can be done through accessories such as decorative pillows, throws, fabrics, artwork, etc. The key is to retain your own personal style and a room that you love while adding small accents that create a unified look and bring an updated feel.

Adding value to homes on the market:
A new coat of paint in a modern neutral palette is an inexpensive way to give a clean look so that buyers can envision their own ideas in the space. Most buyers change colors and decor to their own preferences, so making design improvements that emphasize the best features of the space add the most value.

Decor Business Brief by Community Advocate

Recently, Community Advocate, a leading newspaper from Boston and MA, published a business brief on Decor Custom Interiors.

Have a look!

Westborough – Décor Custom Interiors off ers something no other home decorating showroom has: interior designer and proprietor Usha.

“I have customers that I’m doing their third home,” Usha said. “When I go to a home consultation, I am totally into it: [the clients’] psychology, how they’ve decorated. Then I’m committed for the rest of their life … It’s a lifetime commitment.”

That dedication to her customers clearly pays off .

Usha credits Décor’s success to her own love of interior design. Although she has a degree in chemistry, she has worked in interior design for more than 30 years.

“I am so passionate about it,” she said.

The showroom reflects that passion, with artwork, furniture and draperies displayed as they would be in a home.

In fact, Usha considers Décor both a destination for customers and a version of home for her.

“When I come to work, I have come home in the most serene, relaxed place,” she said. “I want a very relaxed atmosphere here.”

As for the current “fashion,” Usha refuses to rely on what’s popular.

“People will ask me what’s in style. I tell them, ‘You are the style,'” she said. “If it’s your home, if you’re putting your feelings into it, you’re going to collect things over time. You’re collecting the memories of your life. That’s your home.”

That knowledge comes not only from years of experience, but also from her feelings about her customers, whether they are in Décor for the first time or have been back again and again.

“It’s a matter of respect. I love my customers,” Usha said. “It’s a matter of respect both ways.”

Usha can assist with color, fabric selection and overall design.

“We have a range of price points, ” she said. “I don’t care if you are spending $200 or $2,000.”
