Parisian Design: Fabrics, Furniture & Wallpaper @ paris deco off & Maison et Object

This past week Paris hosted two iconic Interiors & Design Style Trend Shows. Maison & Object features cutting edge Interior Designers, Architects & makers of home goods Paris Deco Off is a show of the fabric Wallpaper & Interior design houses of Paris.   For us, We have been inspired by the decor of France Provence & Paris several decades. Displaying Your Favorite Things

Displaying things that you have stories behind or that you have collected is an ideal way to start a conversation. The key is organization,  keeping similar items together and keeping them in odd numbers.

 

You can either organize items by size, or to be artful, mix the sizes up.

Make your colors match! If you have a white collection, place them against a dark background. Collections of a lot of color should go against a neutral background.

 

If you have bookcases with little to put in them in terms of books, but do have a collection with nowhere to put it, place them into the shelves next to the books, but be sure to make sure that the books will not fall over and damage them and that the books themselves are organized by size and color if possible.  Make sure sequential series go in order! Your guests will now not only be looking at your collection, but at your books as well!

Place delicate items out of reach, but in a safe spot, you want to display your collection, not risk its demise!

Pantone Color of the year 2015: Marsala

The new pantone color for 2015 was announced this week: Marsala

A color that is a bit retro, party comfort, a hue between red and brown will appeal both to men and women.

Pantone selects the color of the year by looking at trends from food to fashion, home to garden, and everything in between

Interior Designers, Fashion Designer, Product Designers and creative directors look to pantone to pick a yearly color that will translate into creative styles of all sorts.

How will this translate into the world of Interior design?

our prediction is that it will be a great color for accents. The color can be translated well into faux finishes, wall coverings, fabrics and decorative accessories. Marsala is a color that is easy to use. However, only use it it if you like it. Just because and authority like pantone picks a color of the year, Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams and several other design companies are always working on color forecasts.

Silver’s Shine Brightens Up All Colors.

Silver, Platinum, Copper, and Gold all are highly prized metals and have been for as long as humans have been seeking to decorate themselves and their homes. Silver has never been as popular as gold in the earlier years, but lately the neutral metal has been making strides both in the world of fashion as well as that of the interior designer.

Gold, being a warmer toned metal, tends to clash with cooler colors, but silver is much more neutral, and thus can either work with warm colors by adding a white and gray accent to stand out or emphasize cool colors.

As we become better and better at imitating its beauty, metallic fabrics and silver jewelry and decorations are becoming an eye catching conversation starter as well as a wonderful way to brighten up a room and add a wide variety of tones and hues, especially when the metal has a deep patina to it.

Do not be fooled by tarnish being sold as patina, though! Patina is oxidization from being used, and on silver will be present in the fine details of your piece. Tarnish is an overall darkening or browning that occurs from the pollutants in the air.

Maintaining your silver will not only help remove tarnish, but also add to your patina. Do not be worried about surface scratches though, as they will do nothing but help bring out the tones, enhance your patina, and help create a soft finish.  If you have antique silver we suggest hand polishing, as chemical dips or dish-washing will remove your patina and decrease the value, so do be careful!
