Northborough’s Architectural History of Yesteryear to Today; Updating Your Interior with Blinds, Shutters, Cornices and Silhouette Shades

The Town of Northborough was established as a town in the year 1775, even though it was a district as early as  1766. Since then, Northborough has kept a vast wealth of historical buildings that express the decor of times past, and their interiors have upgraded to meet today’s  modern interior design.

As seen in these two images,  a former power station is now a dining company called Pepper’s Fine Food Catering, after both being a business  front for an ice company and a warehouse and also being a foreign car garage. A refresh of the interior of your home can prove to bring life to the building rather than replacing it. Just the addiction of awnings has transformed the outside,  just as drapes and cornices can improve the interior.

This old wood mill was created in Northborough in 1888, and went through two other different purposes as a furniture producer for churches and as a retail store before its current makeover as a condominium called The Residence at the Falls.

This 1884 Northborough manor has since become the White Cliffs, a restaurant that hosts functions year round. Its interior has been replaced to become a lovely place to dine and to host business meetings and get togethers.

Even with the spire removed, this church’s structure is still recognizable even though it is now the Northborough Historical Society’s building to house their artifacts.

This 1785 house is now the location of the Purple Rose, which is a gift shop and home furnishing store.  This is another Northborough home that has been transformed for another purpose and will be an icon of the town even now.

Being from the late 1800s, these buildings would fall into the neoclassicism style of architecture which inspired a return of classical shapes borrowed from Greece and Rome. They were all built just before the introduction of Art Nouveau, which is seen in buildings with asymmetrical shapes, arches, and decorative surfaces.

The postmodernism style of architecture rose in 1972 and reinvents historical details and familliar motifs. Many of the movements of now date back to classical and ancient times, with a universal idea that rather than completely changing a structure, the classics might be improved upon. Modernism emphasizes function. Its goal is to provide for specific needs rather than imitate nature.

Decorating nowadays relies more on function and what you need. We at Decor Custom Interiors offer a series of functional and comforting custom window treatments and custom drapes to work alongside this new way of thinking. We provide products from Hunter Douglas Blinds and Shades as well as fabrics from Kravet, Robert Allen, Duralee, and wall coverings from Candice Olson and Thibaut. We can help transform your windows with roman shades, panels, shades and shutters to create a lovely yet functional piece of work in your home that you will enjoy every single day.

Cornices to Finish a Window

cornice2 Cornices are window treatments that are timeless, beautiful, and strong stand-alone fixtures. Usually, our designers favor them as is or with drapes on the same window. The same fabric can be used both for the cornices and the drapes or our experts may suggest well paired fabrics to match together.  Using the cornice fabric to tie the drapes or the drapes fabric in the cornice’s cording are two design tips and tricks that will give you a breathtakingly beautiful finished window. Cornices have several varieties of designs and shapes to fit with any feel or style you wish to achieve in your home, and are tailored to work with today’s lifestyles or match a vintage look. We have a full library of designer’s fabrics such as Robert Allen,  Kravet, Duralee, etc. as well as Thibaut, which does not only provide fabric, but wallpapering as well. Because they can be made in any shape that you so choose or desire, the possibilities are endless when It comes to making a unique impression in your rooms. cornice1
