Before you plan interior design for your home…

Interior Design Facts
One of the greatest desires of every human is to have a dream home where he can spend his quality time with family. Most of us spend a considerable amount of our earnings, time and energy to make our home comfortable and beautiful. To make your home comfortable, healthy and pleasing, you must apply the proper application of basic interior design with correct methodology. Some of us look out on internet and study interior design to turn out as a good designer but others are naturally gifted with an eye for beauty and for interior designing.

If you yourself want to do the interior designing of your home, you must be creative and think out of the box. Of course, if you go through a brief training on it, it will be beneficial. You can also take some idea from your friends who are good at decorating their houses. Those of your friends or relatives who have an eye for aesthetic and good design can provide you with the tips to decorate and design your house depending on their likings. Of course, if you read some good books and articles about designing and keep yourself updated on the latest design methods, it will certainly help.

Interior design is not only aesthetic but also functional depending on your specific requirements. You may like to make a small room look spacious and turn an otherwise cluttered room into an orderly one. And you can apply interior designing not only to your home but to your office or commercial place also.

While some people believe in ‘Do it yourself’ approach, for most of us it becomes difficult either due to shortage of time or because we don’t have the required expertise.

Interior design v/s interior decoration

People generally use the terms Interior design and interior decorating interchangeably. However, the two terms are quite different. While both deal with different phases of making a room or a space aesthetic, interior design is basically the process of studying the personality of the occupant of the room being designed in order to maximize and tailor-made the room’s design for that person’s behavior and personality. Interior decorating on the other hand is the process of actually mixing and matching the different design techniques like window treatments, the right wallpaper, wall finish and even the furnishing of a room to make it look beautiful.

How much can an interior designer be helpful?

Professional interior designers are trained in basic knowledge on architecture, engineering and accounting. They also have an eye for aesthetics and can come up with a design which is just suitable for you. They will also ensure that their designs are aesthetic, structurally correct and cost effective.

Usually an interior designer creates a specific atmosphere by putting together several pieces and unifying them in a single theme. There are interior designers who have a bias for certain motifs like eclectic, modern or even country style. Some go for simple designs without the clutter. A designer will always work closely with you to make sure that he or she gets a correct understanding of all your needs in terms of design and style. He or she will also make sure that the interiors of a room should always match the personality of the person who will occupy that room. Getting the services of an interior designer can make a room both aesthetic and functional.

People normally thinks that to hire interior designer is expensive. However, designers are not only creative people but they are also very good in budgeting. Most designers will work on a design that will match or fit the budget of their clients. And you don’t really need to do expensive designing, even a room with basic design with good aesthetics can look beautiful and pleasing. Designers are normally more conscious about your safety needs and also the state of the environment so they tend to use safe and environmentally friendly materials for their designs.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a hassle free interior designing of your home, it is always advisable to hire an experienced and competent interior designer. And, if you like to do it yourself, make sure you know at least the basics, have clear understanding on how you want the room to look like and can spend sufficient time to fully execute it.

Decor Business Brief by Community Advocate

Recently, Community Advocate, a leading newspaper from Boston and MA, published a business brief on Decor Custom Interiors.

Have a look!

Westborough – Décor Custom Interiors off ers something no other home decorating showroom has: interior designer and proprietor Usha.

“I have customers that I’m doing their third home,” Usha said. “When I go to a home consultation, I am totally into it: [the clients’] psychology, how they’ve decorated. Then I’m committed for the rest of their life … It’s a lifetime commitment.”

That dedication to her customers clearly pays off .

Usha credits Décor’s success to her own love of interior design. Although she has a degree in chemistry, she has worked in interior design for more than 30 years.

“I am so passionate about it,” she said.

The showroom reflects that passion, with artwork, furniture and draperies displayed as they would be in a home.

In fact, Usha considers Décor both a destination for customers and a version of home for her.

“When I come to work, I have come home in the most serene, relaxed place,” she said. “I want a very relaxed atmosphere here.”

As for the current “fashion,” Usha refuses to rely on what’s popular.

“People will ask me what’s in style. I tell them, ‘You are the style,'” she said. “If it’s your home, if you’re putting your feelings into it, you’re going to collect things over time. You’re collecting the memories of your life. That’s your home.”

That knowledge comes not only from years of experience, but also from her feelings about her customers, whether they are in Décor for the first time or have been back again and again.

“It’s a matter of respect. I love my customers,” Usha said. “It’s a matter of respect both ways.”

Usha can assist with color, fabric selection and overall design.

“We have a range of price points, ” she said. “I don’t care if you are spending $200 or $2,000.”
